The study, released in the journal Behavioural Processes, stated that while it is frequently thought that felines are not especially sociable or trainable, new feline cognition research study is offering evidence of their “complex socio-cognitive and issue solving capabilities”.

For the brand-new study, adult cats from 2 populations (animal and shelter) were presented with three stimuli within each of the following four categories: human social interaction, food, a toy, and scent. The percentage

of time that the felines then engaged with each stimulus was recorded.

The single most-preferred stimulus from each of the four categories w then provided in a final session to determine each feline’s most-preferred stimulus overall.Different felines had different choices, however social interaction with humans turned up as a clear favourite for the majority of them, followed by food. And, interestingly, this held true for cats in both the family pet and shelter population. Now go home, hug your cat and indulge in the knowledge that it enjoys you more than those stinky cat biscuits.
